Recap of April Meeting and Upcoming Events

Our April Support Group Meeting was a great success, with speaker, Leanne Murrillo from ABIL (Arizona Bridge to Independent Living) presenting the topic, “Living Well with a Disability”. Leanne leads a ten week workshop at ABIL and graciously agreed to give us a short synopsis of the program as well as speaking to us about other programs available at ABIL and the DEC (Disability Empowerment Center). Leanne also spoke about the 6th Annual Health and Wellness Fair to be held at the DEC, 5025 E. Washington St. in Phoenix. The Fair is open to the public and FREE and will feature more than 70 exhibitors, ranging from legal services to adaptive technology, educational presentations, fitness demonstrations, health screenings, healthy but inexpensive cooking demonstrations, tours of the Sports and Fitness Center, raffle prizes* and open pool for all!  *(Win an iPad mini!)   The Fair is Friday, April 24th 12:00 noon-5:00pm

Conquer Chiari’s Annual walk- September 19th, 2015

Also discussed was the 8th Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America, Arizona. Our local efforts have raised thousands of dollars since our first Walk in 2008 when we were one of three Groups in the Country to raise awareness and funding for Chiari, syringo and related conditions . Beth Wells will again lead our Walk as the Arizona Organizer, serving her 5th term as area organizer  with Hilarie O’Dell as co-organizer. As mentioned, the WALK will be 9-19-2015 at Pioneer Park, 8755 N.83rd Ave. Peoria. Participation is free. T-shirts will be provided for preregistered walkers with a minimum donation of $25.  (((((deadline is 8/15) )))))  for information,

May is Syringomyelia Awareness Month!!

AS A P  (American Syringomyelia Chiari Alliance Project) is preparing for their 27th Annual Physician/Patient Conference which will be held this year in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The dates of the conference are July 22nd thru Saturday, July 25th and will be hosted by Cormac Maher, MD.  The Marriott in Ann Arbor has agreed to a special guest rate which can be reached toll-free 877-757-7133.
